A cat mistreated by its owner was discovered in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), in a sorry state. The animal, found in the street, was taken to the Société protectrice des animaux (SPA). Following a police investigation, the owner was identified and will be brought to trial in November.
Owner claims to have been "scratched and bitten" by cat
On March 19, the cat was found with its head shaved, its whiskers clipped and its claws torn out in the streets of La Rochelle. The man explained to the police that he could no longer control the animal, which scratched and bit him on a daily basis, reports France Bleu.
Instead of entrusting the cat to a shelter, the owner admits he "wanted to get rid of it" by deliberately throwing it over his 2nd-floor balcony, after mutilating it.
Appearance in court
Although he suffers from slight psychological disorders, the man is considered to be criminally responsible, according to our confrères. He will appear in court on November 13.
The cat, nicknamed "Adolf" or "Lucifer" by his owner, is now at the SPA, surrounded by kind people who will take good care of him.
