Tragedy on Saturday evening in Eyguières, located in the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône. A man lost his life while trying to rescue a puppy swept away by the current in the EDF canal, according to La Provence.
The victim, a German citizen living in the area, jumped into the water after seeing that the dog of a couple of walkers was in danger.
The couple reported that their dog had rushed into the water to join another dog spotted on the opposite bank. Unfortunately, the man who was trying to save the dog was eventually submerged and swept away by the current. The fire brigade found his body several kilometres downstream, near Aureille.
The local gendarmerie has launched an investigation to determine the precise circumstances of this tragic accident.
