According to Actu.frThe owner of land in Saint-Denis-le-Ferment is outraged by the discovery of two dead horses in an advanced state of decomposition. The animals were allegedly neglected for at least three weeks, and the owner filed a complaint as soon as she became aware of this.
She is now trying to identify the person responsible for the abandonment and animal abuse. Both horses died of hunger and thirst: one was found in a stall, while the other was in a meadow with its rib cage already eaten away by putrefaction.
It seems that these horses had already been spotted sick and uncared for a few months ago. The situation is complex, as the owner of the land has been involved in proceedings with the main tenant of her plot for the last 15 years. This tenant has sublet the plot to a third party, who is allegedly responsible for the horses.
The person in question, contacted by phone, did not deny responsibility, but described the matter as "incredible" without giving further details. She promised to call Actu.fr again to discuss the matter, but did not keep her promise.
The mayor of Saint-Denis-le-Ferment, Nathalie Thebault, informed the DDPP (Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations) and the gendarmerie of the situation three weeks ago. The Andelys Gendarmerie Company confirms that an investigation is underway. However, the rendering services do not seem to have intervened yet, as the carcass of the dead horse in the meadow was seen recently.
