France Bleu reports a sad story of animal cruelty that occurred in Pau. Residents of a building in Zaragoza alerted the police on Wednesday 17 May 2023 to persistent odours emanating from a flat. In response, the police carried out an intervention in the evening, at around 8.30pm.
What the police found at the scene was disturbing. An Argentinian mastiff, named Harley, was found in a precarious state of health, left alone in the flat. The flat was ransacked, covered in dog faeces, which contributed to the odour nuisance that disturbed the neighbours.
Harley was rescued from this unfortunate situation by the SACPA, a shelter in Monein, where he was taken into care. The story took an even more surprising turn when the animal's owner came forward, mistakenly believing that her dog had been stolen.
Due to the inhumane conditions in which Harley was kept, the owner was taken into custody. She was also fined €135 for keeping or placing a captive pet in an environment likely to cause suffering.
