  • To deprive of something
  • Enough is enough!

Dogs of all ages frequently get into mischief, such as peeing inside the house or digging holes under rose bushes in the garden. Although animal abuse is illegal and unacceptable, some forms of punishment can be effective in discouraging these harmful behaviors.

Lift your animal by the neck without using force

This method of punishment is primarily for very young puppies, as it mimics the punishment their mother would apply. For the first two to three months, the mother is responsible for training the puppy, including housebreaking and bite control.

The puppy's mother has only her mouth to correct the puppy's bad behavior. To punish, she lifts the puppy by the scruff of the neck. If the puppy has not been weaned too early, he will understand this correction perfectly.

To the basket!

However, this method of punishment is for dogs that already have a good foundation in training. If the dog does something wrong, one solution is to send him to his basket or kennel. In this way, he is temporarily deprived of his freedom of movement and of your company.

However, be sure to let him out of his kennel or basket, otherwise he will go out without your permission, which will undermine your authority.

To deprive of something

If your dog loves to play with his ball, toys, cookies, and especially your company, one method of punishment is to deprive him of what he wants if he does not behave. This way, he will understand the connection between his behavior and getting his reward.

Enough is enough!

If you are playing with your dog and he becomes too excited, to the point of grabbing your hand or biting you, it is time to stop immediately and ignore your dog. This way, he'll quickly learn that he needs to control himself so the play session can continue.

It is important to remember that your dog should never perceive your displeasure as aggression. Furthermore, all punishments should only be applied if you catch your pet in the act of committing the mistake. Otherwise, he won't understand why you are angry.

Also be sure to reward your dog when he behaves well. It's fun for him and for you, and it will reinforce his good behavior. So don't hesitate to reward him!
