On February 12, around 8 am, Florence, residing in Bois-en-Ardres rue des Mimosas (Nord Pas de Calais), discovered a sick cat in her garden, reports The voice of the north. This little animal was shaking and having epileptic seizures. That evening, Florence went to the veterinarian who provided first aid and confirmed that the cat had been poisoned. Fortunately, thanks to the care provided, the animal was saved. However, as the cat was not identified, it was given to the LPA (Ligue protectrice des animaux) of Calaisis. Nine days later, around 9 am, Florence discovered in her yard a neighbor's cat deceased. She gave the cat to its owner who buried it in her garden.
Other cats were poisoned last year
A neighbor discovered her own one-and-a-half year old cat, Chipie, sick a few feet from her house on Monday. The cat was taken to the veterinarian who provided first aid, but it is not yet known if he will survive. The Ardrésienne went twice to the local gendarmerie to deposit a handrail, because the facts occurred between the street of the Mimosas and the Jonquilles. According to the veterinarian, the cats have absorbed a high dose of poison to be in this state. It is unlikely that they simply licked a toxic product once. Instead, the poison must have been hidden in food. The Ardresian assumed that the acts took place at night, as she found the cats in the morning.
Florence alerted her neighbors and posted messages on social media to inform them of the situation. She also authorized a blood sample to be taken from her cat to determine the substance responsible for her illness. She is asking cat owners to keep their cats indoors and find a solution to stop these poisonings. Last year, in May, another resident in the same area on Rue des Jonquilles reported the loss of her cat, which had been poisoned by two insecticides banned in Europe: aldicarb and carbofuran. Other neighbors have also reported the disappearance of several cats in the neighborhood due to poisoning.
This Monday, La Voix du Nord contacted the gendarmerie to obtain information on the case, but it did not yet have details to communicate.
