La Provence reports this Monday, February 27, 2023 that a 30-year-old man in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) was violent towards their pet rather than his girlfriend in December 2022. After their cat urinated on his towel, the man got angry and shot the animal with a rifle.
A few days later, the man in question continued to show signs of violence towards his partner by threatening her and causing material damage such as the deterioration of a marble table and the gas valve. Faced with this situation, the young woman decided to defend herself and file a complaint.
He would have aimed at a flower pot
During the hearing, the companion of the man did not wish to be a civil party. She also returned to the statements she had made when she filed the complaint. On his side, the accused admitted having "probably said that I was going to kill her, under the blow of the dispute", while affirming that he had always taken care of her.
According to him, the death of the cat was an accident that resulted from his careless play with a flowerpot: "I stupidly shot a flowerpot for fun and killed the cat. As a result, the man was sentenced to a six-month suspended sentence, which includes a ban on contact with his spouse.
