According to France BleuOn Friday April 21st, at around 11pm, tragedy struck in Erbrée, near Vitré. Dewi, a 25-year-old restaurant worker, was staying temporarily with friends, his partner and their 2-year-old child, while waiting to move house. When he returned home, he discovered that the doors to the house's two garages were open. One of the garages had been searched, and in the other were their three dogs.
Two of the dogs were outside and the third, a 6-year-old Australian Shepherd, was dead, probably run over by the burglars' car. Dewi believes her dog stood in front of the vehicle to protect the house as the thieves fled.
A weekend in intensive care for the second dog
The second dog, a staffie, was seriously injured by the criminals. According to Dewi, the dog suffered multiple fractures, lung haematomas, contusions and physical injuries. He spent the whole weekend in intensive care at the vet's. Dewi believes his staffie was the victim of revenge attacks by the burglars for trying to protect the house. The dog underwent hip and pelvis surgery at a specialist clinic in Rennes.
Dewi's anger and sadness
Dewi expresses his anger and sadness at the situation. He deplores the loss of one of his dogs and the serious condition in which the other was taken to the veterinary emergency room in the middle of the night. He is deeply distressed by these barbaric acts against his animals. After lodging a complaint for violence resulting in the death of an animal, an investigation has been opened by the Vitré gendarmerie. Dewi hopes that the appeal for witnesses he has launched on social networks will lead to the arrest of the burglars responsible for these particularly cruel acts.
