Instagram account pawsup.education has issued an urgent warning to all dog owners: "Be careful with your four-legged companions." Following a walk in the Plaine des Sports area, located in the Parc de la Citadelle in Lille, Northern France, a minimum of six dogs showed signs of intoxication. Unfortunately, one of them did not survive.
It says on the Instagram page that, thanks to timely veterinary care, some dogs have been saved, including Rio, a golden retriever, and Scarlett, an English cocker spaniel. Others, however, are still in care. The account recommends that dog owners prefer city walks, stay alert in parks and keep their dogs on a leash.
An investigation is underway
Pawsup Education warns: if your dog has been walked near the Citadel and shows symptoms such as vomiting, excessive salivation, diarrhea or tremors, it's crucial to consult a vet without delay.
According to a press release, the municipality of Lille said it was mobilizing all necessary means to elucidate the causes of the poisoning. "If pesticides are found to be the cause, the city wishes to point out that it has not used them since 2008," it said. The City of Lille has lodged a complaint, not ruling out the possibility of deliberate poisoning.
It's worth noting that, according to 30 millions d'amis magazine's annual rankings published on April 26, Lille has been ranked as the most dog-friendly of French cities with populations of over 100,000. One of the reasons for this distinction is the number of dog parks it offers. This information was reported by 20minutes.fr.
